Query letter
Topic: Rep search

I'm about to (finally) make the big push to land either an agent or manager. Below is the general query letter that I will be using.

March 26, 2006
Mr. Big Agent
111 Happy Street
Los Angeles, CA 90212

Dear Mr. Agent,

In early 2004, I entered the Project Greenlight contest with a total of five screenplays and proudly watched as all five advanced to the Top 1000 Semi-Finalists out of approximately 4100 entries. Later, I was excited to learn that three of those five were named in the Top 100 Finalists in the Project Greenlight contest.

Due to my performance in the PGL contest, I garnered the attention of an upstart production company and have since sold a horror thriller to that same company.

With the distinction of being the only writer to have more than one script in the Top 100 Finalists of the Project Greenlight contest and my recent sale, I have decided that now is the time to seek representation, which is the reason for this letter.

In addition to seeking representation, I am shopping around my current project, "Paradox,” a science fiction tale with heart. It explores the possibility of time travel and its dangerous repurcussions as it tears apart the lives of one family. With the action of "Terminator" and the drama of "Twelve Monkeys," "Paradox" tells the story of a young officer, Tom, whose life is destroyed when a criminal attempts to erase him from existence. Following what appears to be a heart attack, Tom awakens in a jail cell with no clothes and no family. His wife is no longer his wife, his son no longer exists, and he is a stranger to everyone. To get his family back, he must unlock the mystery of what has been done to him and find a way to reverse it.

If you are interested in hearing more about "Paradox" or any of my other completed scripts, please feel free to contact me via e-mail (jimbeck@staywaypictures.com) or by phone at 818.913.8649.

Thank you for taking your time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jim Beck
